The Google Map Pedometer is basically my favorite Google thing ever. I could spend hours planning routes online. The only downside is that it doesn't tell me which streets tend to be busy...
Simply click around your city, turning on each street, to map out the distance you want to run or to retrack the route you already did. All you need now is some sort of timer--a watch or an iPod is easy to bring along. And ta-da! You've got a good idea of your running pace. Best of all, it's totally free. Talk about a sweet gadget (or gizmo. Whichever you prefer).
